About our staff

A friendly atmosphere is created within our nursery environment, based on warm and caring relationships between our nursery staff and the children in our care. Our nursery staff all act as good role models within the setting, and recognise that children learn by example and are constantly learning through observation. Common courtesy, mutual respect and patience are demonstrated at all times throughout our setting.

Staff carry out regular observations of every child in our care using on 'online learning journal service called Tapestry' which allows staff to work alongside the parents ensuring your child’s learning and development incorporates their interests and needs. These observations cover all areas of development according to the EYFS, as well as records of special and spontaneous moments, which capture your child’s response to certain activities or events as they happen. Your child's experiences at nursery and home can be recorded in their unique Learning Journal and given as a gift when your child moves on school, enabling you cherish these special moments for years to come.

Safeguarding children is of paramount importance to us and as such our recruitment process criteria ensures children are protected. We also make certain our staff are fit, knowledgeable, sympathetic and patient with children.

We operate to a very high ratio of well-qualified staff, acknowledging the requirement of OFSTED. Those ratios being:

  • One staff for every 3 children aged 0-2 years
  • One staff for every 4 children aged 2-3 years
  • One staff for every 8 children aged 3-5 years

However we endeavour to attain a much higher level of staffing ratios, wherever possible.

Staff knowledge and training in the supervision of our children and in working with the children is of prime importance. In addition to our regular internal training and development programmes we established a good training base with the local authority, ensuring that our staff are kept completely up to date with childcare and management issues along with any changes in childcare legislation.

We have a range of qualified staff from childcare level 2 through to foundation degree (level 5) as well as having 12 hr paediatric first aid, FGM, Prevent Duty, Food Safety level 2 and safeguarding & child protection training and qualifications.

All staff, students and volunteers have been through the DBS checks (Disclosures & Barring Service formerly CRB).

Staff Training Days:

The nursery is closed for three staff training days throughout the year. These are normally in January, at Easter and in September. Staff also attend various other training to support their continuous professional development and the needs of the children.
